- 4 medium-sized tart apples (such as Granny Smith)
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- 1/4 cup of unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 1 cup of heavy cream (warm)
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar (packed)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt (fine)
- 1/4 cup of crushed pecans (toasted)
Instructions
- Core each apple and slice the top off for a polished presentation.
- In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar, lemon juice, and butter over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and turns amber.
- Slowly pour in the warm heavy cream, mixing well. Stir in brown sugar and vanilla, simmer for 5 to 7 minutes until thickened.
- Drizzle a spoonful of caramel inside each apple, allowing to settle before adding more.
- Sprinkle each apple with crushed pecans and sea salt.
Notes
For added texture, consider rolling the apples in toasted coconut or crushed almonds. Substitute pecans with pistachios for a color contrast.
