Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and white sugar together until smooth and creamy.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing until well combined.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets.
  7. Use the bottom of a glass to gently flatten the dough balls.
  8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges turn golden.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on wire racks, then sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Notes

For softer cookies, bake for a minute less. You can add chocolate chips, nuts, or dried fruits for variations.
