Description
A sublime treat that combines warmth and sweetness in each slice, perfect for brunch or breakfast.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
- 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (approximately 110°F)
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened to room temperature)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 egg (beaten, for an egg wash)
- Optional: coarse sugar for garnish
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it stand for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add softened butter, eggs, salt, and half of the flour. Stir until smooth. Gradually incorporate the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until it is elastic and smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon for the filling and set aside.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle (approximately 14×10 inches). Spread the cinnamon mixture evenly across the surface, sprinkling raisins evenly on top.
- Roll the dough tightly from the long edge, pinch seams to seal, and cut the log into equal pieces.
- Arrange the pieces in a greased loaf pan, cover, and let rise for another 30-40 minutes until puffy.
- While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg and optionally sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and fragrant. The internal temperature should reach 190°F (88°C).
- Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
