Description

A sublime treat that combines warmth and sweetness in each slice, perfect for brunch or breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (approximately 110°F)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened to room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 egg (beaten, for an egg wash)
  • Optional: coarse sugar for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it stand for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add softened butter, eggs, salt, and half of the flour. Stir until smooth. Gradually incorporate the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until it is elastic and smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon for the filling and set aside.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle (approximately 14×10 inches). Spread the cinnamon mixture evenly across the surface, sprinkling raisins evenly on top.
  7. Roll the dough tightly from the long edge, pinch seams to seal, and cut the log into equal pieces.
  8. Arrange the pieces in a greased loaf pan, cover, and let rise for another 30-40 minutes until puffy.
  9. While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg and optionally sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and fragrant. The internal temperature should reach 190°F (88°C).
  12. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients and consider adding chopped nuts or different dried fruits for added flavor.
