A Halloween twist on the classic Shepherd’s Pie, featuring seasoned meat, creamy mashed potatoes, and spooky black olive designs.

- 1 lb ground beef or lamb
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup milk
- 4 tablespoons butter (unsalted, softened)
- Black olives (for spooky faces)
- Grated cheese (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, add ground beef or lamb. Cook until browned and drain excess fat.
- Stir in chopped onion, diced carrots, and minced garlic. Sauté until tender, around 5-7 minutes.
- Add frozen peas, tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
- In a pot, boil cubed potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and mash with milk and butter, seasoning with salt and pepper.
- In a baking dish, pour the meat mixture as the first layer, then spread the mashed potatoes on top.
- Use black olives to create spooky faces on the mashed potatoes.
- Sprinkle grated cheese over the top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until cheese is golden and bubbly.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, substitute meat with lentils and vegetable broth. Prepare the meat filling ahead for convenience.
