- 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (pounded to an even thickness)
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)
Instructions
- Season the pounded chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper.
- In a shallow dish, combine panko breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
- Lightly coat each chicken breast in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the chicken in a single layer and air fry for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- In the last 3 minutes of cooking, spoon marinara sauce over each piece and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella. Close the air fryer briefly to melt the cheese.
- Remove the chicken from the fryer, let it rest for a few minutes, and garnish with fresh basil leaves.
Notes
For an even crispier coating, consider a two-step dredging method with egg and breadcrumbs.
