Description
Delightfully sophisticated buns filled with a savory and spicy chicken mixture, enveloped in pillowy dough.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (preferably low-sodium)
- 1 teaspoon sriracha sauce (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet instant yeast (about 2 ¼ teaspoons)
- ½ cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons room temperature butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon sriracha (for a creamy kick)
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
- Fresh cilantro leaves, finely chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds, lightly toasted (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add flour, salt, and room temperature butter. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.
- Let it Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size, approximately 60 minutes.
- Make the Filling: While the dough is rising, blend ground chicken, soy sauce, sriracha, sesame oil, green onions, and ginger in a bowl. Ensure everything is mixed thoroughly.
- Shape the Buns: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle and place a spoonful of chicken filling in the center. Fold the edges over to encase the filling, pinching to seal securely.
- Second Rise: Let the shaped buns rest on a baking sheet lined with parchment for another 30 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, sriracha, and lime juice to create a zesty dipping sauce.
Notes
For a gourmet upgrade, substitute ground chicken with shredded duck or slow-cooked pork belly. Freeze the baked buns in an airtight container for up to a month.
