Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup whole milk or heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9-inch cake pan and place parchment paper at the bottom.
  3. Cream the softened butter and sugar together for about 3-5 minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  7. Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  8. Pour in the whole milk or heavy cream and mix until smooth.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  10. Bake for 40-50 minutes, until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Let cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Store leftovers tightly wrapped at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerate for up to a week. Can be frozen for three months.
