Description

A comforting casserole featuring tender steak, creamy cheese sauce, and rich tortellini, perfect for family dinners and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb sirloin steak or steak tips, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk (whole milk or 2%)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 package (20 oz) cheese tortellini, fresh or refrigerated
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Season the steak pieces with salt and black pepper. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear the steak for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned. Set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Sprinkle in flour, cooking for another minute to create a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk and beef broth until smooth. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese, Dijon mustard (if using), and paprika until melted and creamy.
  5. Cook the tortellini according to package instructions but slightly undercook them. Drain and toss with a bit of olive oil.
  6. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Mix tortellini, seared steak, and cheese sauce together. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  8. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

Consider adding spinach or peas for extra nutrition. Substitute chicken or ground beef if preferred.
