Description
A comforting classic combining fresh green beans with a rich, creamy sauce and crunchy fried onions, perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and blanched
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for sautéing mushrooms)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup French fried onions, divided
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- If using mushrooms, melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until fully combined.
- Add the blanched green beans (and sautéed mushrooms, if using) to the bowl and gently toss everything until coated.
- Pour the mixture into a greased casserole dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until hot and bubbly.
- Stir in half of the French fried onions, then sprinkle the rest on top.
- Return the casserole to the oven for an additional 5-7 minutes, until the onions are golden brown and crispy.
Notes
For an extra creamy base, consider adding more milk or even some sour cream. You can also add cheese or crispy bacon for a flavor twist.
