A comforting homemade version of the classic Hamburger Helper, featuring creamy textures and rich flavors, perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound lean ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 large yellow onion, diced
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
- 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
- 8 oz small pasta shells
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons flour
Instructions
- In a large sauté pan, place the ground beef (or turkey) over medium-high heat. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, then set aside.
- Add the diced onions to the same pan and sauté until soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Toss in minced garlic and cook for another minute. Stir in flour and let cook for another minute to thicken the sauce.
- Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring continuously and bring to a gentle boil.
- Stir in the tomato sauce and pasta shells. Cover and let simmer until the pasta is tender, about 8-10 minutes.
- Lower the heat, mix in heavy cream and shredded cheddar until melted and creamy. Return the browned meat to the pan and heat through.
Notes
Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for added color. Can be paired with a side salad or garlic bread.
