Description

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons honey (preferably local)
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water and honey in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it bloom for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the yeast mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) while the dough rises.
  7. Punch down the dough and shape into a loaf. Place in a greased loaf pan.
  8. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, honey, garlic powder, and onion powder. Brush over the loaf.
  9. Allow the loaf to rise again for 30 minutes, uncovered.
  10. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Notes

Serve with artisan butter or herb-infused olive oil for a refined touch.
