- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons honey (preferably local)
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- Combine warm water and honey in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it bloom for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the yeast mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) while the dough rises.
- Punch down the dough and shape into a loaf. Place in a greased loaf pan.
- In a small bowl, mix melted butter, honey, garlic powder, and onion powder. Brush over the loaf.
- Allow the loaf to rise again for 30 minutes, uncovered.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Serve with artisan butter or herb-infused olive oil for a refined touch.
