Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for cheesecake layer)
  • 1 large egg (for cheesecake layer)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for cheesecake layer)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter and sugar until smooth, then add eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring; mix well.
  3. Sift in cocoa powder, flour, and salt, folding gently until combined.
  4. In another bowl, beat cream cheese with 1/4 cup sugar until creamy, then add egg and vanilla extract for cheesecake layer; mix until smooth.
  5. Pour about three-quarters of the red velvet batter into the prepared pan, then pour the cheesecake layer over it.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of remaining red velvet batter on top and swirl with a knife for a marbled effect.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the center is set.
  8. Cool completely before slicing; refrigerate for at least 30 minutes for clean cuts.
