Description

Warm and spiced quick bread that fills your home with a cozy aroma, featuring a delightful crumb topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg (plus a pinch extra for topping)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup (240 ml) eggnog, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (75 g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1/3 cup (40 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (55 g) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the sugar and eggs until combined. Add the eggnog, melted butter, and vanilla; stir until smooth.
  4. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  6. Make the crumb topping by combining brown sugar and flour. Cut in the cold butter until pea-sized crumbs form.
  7. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the batter and add a pinch of nutmeg on top.
  8. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Let cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool for another 20 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Serve warm with butter or powdered sugar. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
