Description
A mouthwatering fusion dish that combines tender, marinated chicken with flavorful garlic butter stuffed in delicious bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 400g chicken tenders, cubed (about 4-5)
- ½ cup plain, full-fat yogurt
- 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp chili flakes (reduce as needed)
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp coriander powder
- ½ tsp cumin powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ¼ tsp garam masala
- Optional: 1-2 tbsp Shan tandoori masala
- 2 tbsp oil
- A handful of wooden smoking chips for smoking
- 6–8 garlic cloves, mixed with 2 tbsp olive oil
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted (113g)
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup milk (60g)
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp paprika
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- 12 King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sheet Rolls (or a French baguette of a similar size)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Chopped fresh parsley for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix yogurt, ginger garlic paste, lemon juice, salt, red chili powder, chili flakes, turmeric, coriander, cumin, onion powder, and garam masala. Add the cubed chicken and coat well. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for best flavor) in the refrigerator.
- Soak the wooden smoking chips in water for about 30 minutes. Heat a pan on medium heat, add the chips, and when they start to smoke, place a covered bowl inside to infuse the chicken with smoke for about 10 minutes.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook until fully cooked and slightly charred on the edges (about 7-10 minutes). Set the cooked chicken aside.
- In a blender, combine the roasted garlic, melted butter, egg, milk, salt, and paprika. Blend until smooth.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping them connected. Spread the garlic butter custard over the inside. Layer the cooked chicken and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top.
- Bake in the oven covered with foil for the first 15 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
For extra flavor, let the chicken marinate overnight. Use fresh garlic for a stronger flavor. Substitutions include using leftover grilled chicken, pita bread, or naan.
