Description
Bright, citrusy cookies infused with toasty black sesame, perfect for cozy gatherings or quiet tea moments.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups (280 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (227 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (100 g) light brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Zest of 1 large orange (about 1 tablespoon)
- 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
- 2 tablespoons ground black sesame
- 1–2 tablespoons black sesame seeds, toasted (for topping)
- 1 tablespoon white sesame seeds, toasted (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and ground black sesame in a bowl. Set aside.
- Cream the softened butter with both sugars until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Add the egg, vanilla, orange zest, and orange juice; beat until combined.
- Fold the dry mix into the wet mix with a spatula until just combined.
- Chill the dough for 20–30 minutes if it’s too soft.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared sheets. Press a few toasted black sesame seeds on top.
- Bake one sheet at a time for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden and centers look set.
- Let the cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Use unsalted butter for better salt control. Toast sesame seeds in a dry pan for 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
