Ingredients

  • 1 packet Yeast (ensure fresh and active)
  • 1 large Egg (or flax egg for vegan option)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (or margarine, softened)
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour (or gluten-free flour blend)
  • 1/4 cup Sugar (brown sugar preferred)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Pistachio Butter (unsalted recommended)
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Ground Cinnamon (or Vietnamese cinnamon)
  • 4 ounces Cream Cheese (or vegan cream cheese)
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar (or coconut powdered sugar for vegan)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract (pure for best results)
  • 2 tablespoons Heavy Cream (or non-dairy cream for vegan)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Warm the milk in a small saucepan until lukewarm. Remove from heat and stir in the yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until bubbly.
  3. Whisk the egg, butter, sugar, and salt in a large bowl until well combined. Add the yeast mixture and mix.
  4. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 30 minutes.
  6. Make the filling by combining pistachio butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
  8. Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 1-inch pieces. Place them in a greased baking dish.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Beat together cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and cream until smooth for the glaze. Drizzle over warm rolls.
