Description

A comforting and flavorful soup perfect for chilly days, made with split peas and ham for a rich and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup split peas, rinsed
  • 1 cup cooked ham, diced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat some oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté the onions, carrots, and celery until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Stir in the rinsed split peas and diced ham, followed by the broth and the bay leaf.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for around 30-40 minutes, until the peas are tender and creamy.
  5. Remove the bay leaf and season your soup with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

Soaking the split peas overnight can reduce cooking time. For a smoother texture, blend the soup after cooking.
